When Evelynn was born, everything seemed perfect. Born at 39 weeks weighing a healthy 8 lbs. 1 oz., she was eating like a champ—chugging her bottles and always hungry. But within the first week, her weight began to drop. At first, we were told it was normal. But over the next few weeks, her feeding slowed down drastically, and so did her growth.
By the time she was just five weeks old, we were in the Emergency Department at Children’s Wisconsin—our tiny baby had eaten less than an ounce in 24 hours and was growing dangerously weak. She was diagnosed with Failure to Thrive and admitted immediately.
That was the beginning of our Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD) journey. Evelynn received a feeding tube at just six weeks old and underwent countless tests, scopes, scans, and feeding evaluations. Despite all of that, we still don’t have a clear medical reason why she doesn’t eat enough to grow. What we do know is that Evelynn has a Pediatric Feeding Disorder—and that means every ounce, every bite, every pound is a fight.
Through all of this, Feeding Matters has been a beacon of hope for our family.
They connected us with resources, mentorship, and guidance when we were overwhelmed and lost. They gave us the tools to understand PFD—and reminded us that we weren’t alone.
