When eating is hard, scary, or hurts... it's not picky eating.

Meet Hannah
Hannah is an 8 year-old girl who has a feeding and eating disorder called ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder). ARFID is a fairly new diagnosis in the DSM-V, and there is limited information available. It was a big challenge to find resources and support. Hannah has always loved to be on camera, so Hannah and her mom started documenting her journey through social media as a way to motivate her to try new foods.

Since starting this ARFID journey, Hannah has made incredible strides, and has been an inspiration for many others. She has used her voice to share her journey and spread awareness. Hannah has built a community for those with ARFID, and her hope is to help others just like her.

Join us in The One Bite Challenge!
Hannah bravely takes three bites of her fear foods and vulnerably shares her journey on social media and the ups and downs that come with each bite. Watch her try a fear food here and join us in raising money to support awareness for pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) and ARFID! Do your one-bite challenge today.

Raising Awareness, Inclusively
At Feeding Matters, we understand that feeding disorders and differences are deeply personal and nuanced. While the One Bite Challenge is designed to raise awareness to the general public and empathy for individuals with feeding disorders, we acknowledge that trying a bite may not reflect the best approach for everyone. That’s why we’ve also included inclusive ways to participate whether you have PFD/ARFID or not, such as touching or smelling food, or trying a food you love or simply sharing your story. Raising awareness requires balancing understanding, advocacy, and sensitivity, and we are committed to doing so in a way that honors each individual’s journey while supporting families and advancing research and care.

Here we go!
To participate in the One Bite Challenge:

  • Pick a Food: Choose a food that scares you or that you don’t like.
  • Take One Bite: Film yourself taking one bite and post it on social media. A script to use: "In honor of Hannah and others with feeding differences, here I go!" (Take the bite) "I nominate xxx, xxx, xxx (3 friends, celebs, or groups)
    • Taking a bite isn't for everyone! Take the challenge in your own way. Consider smelling or touching a food, choosing a food you love, or sharing your story instead!
  • Donate: Support us as we raise awareness for feeding disorders by:
    • Taking the challenge,
    • Making a donation and skipping the challenge, or
    • Doing both!
  • Nominate Three Friends: Help us keep up the momentum! Tag three friends and challenge them to do the same within 3 days.

Share your video using the hashtag #OneBiteChallenge and tag @itsnotpickyeating to raise awareness and help individuals and families facing feeding disorders and differences.
