Did you know that Pediatric Feeding Disorder affects more than 1 in 37 children under the age of 5 in the United States each year. For infants and children, every bite of food can be painful, scary, or impossible, potentially impeding nutrition, development, growth, and overall well-being. A lot of infants and children are still getting diagnosed later than they should. The later a child is diagnosed with PFD the more trauma the child could have been exposed to due to not receiving the right treatment, services, medication etc. Julian was age 2.5 years old when we finally got a diagnosis of what was causing his pediatric feeding disorder. Many families are still paying out of pocket for treatment, therapy, services, feeding supplies because it is still not covered by insurance companies. Children who have a pediatric feeding disorder, their day-to-day routine is not normal like other children, they can’t just go with the flow because these children need more time to eat, and meals must be structured. As a parent with a child who has a pediatric feeding disorder it is scary when your child doesn’t eat, and it is scary watching your child vomit at night to feel relief. When first going through this we did not know anyone else who had a child with PFD. I was lucky to find Feeding Matters who have been nothing but amazing to offer support, connect me with other families, and provide resources. They also nominated Julian for the superhero of the year, and Julian had a great time being honored with his friend while exploring Batman’s bat cave. Please consider donating to this amazing cause to continue to offer support to families who have a child with a Pediatric Feeding Disorder. Feeding Matters and I want families to know they are not alone.
